Spreading Jazz throughout our community!
As stated in Article I, Section 2 of our Bylaws, one of the Charlotte Jazz Society's stated purposes is to "provide opportunities for education about and exposure to jazz in the Charlotte area and surrounding communities". To that end the Society has partnered with the International Association of Jazz Educators, Charlotte-Mecklenburg's Arts and Science Council, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, Arts Teach, and other arts organizations in the surrounding area to present jazz in the schools to all age groups.
Our presentation can take the form of a jazz overview concert for one or more grade levels, a more instructional type of performance for the members of the school jazz band, an instrument-specific class for an individual student or small group of students by one of the members, or assisting with or conducting school jazz band rehearsals. We want to interact with both non-music and music students to raise their awareness about jazz and to make it more accessible to them. After, these kids are the future players, listeners, and appreciators of jazz and it is up to us to pass along our love, knowledge, and appreciation of this music to those coming after us.
